The following movies are in German, they show basics of how to work with nccad9.
The software nccad itself is available in English, too, inside the software you can switch from German to English.

Remarks: The nccad-window and the picture size was diminuated in order to reduce the size of the file.
CAD-Basics in an example.
You want to make a workpiece, draw a piece for CAD/CAM, or simply to make a drawing?
In both cases choose a function from the Icon group New file, for example: CAD-drawing.
Define a paper format, here „Free format". You get a drawing area with or without a grid, activate it by the button SHOW GRID. You can change the size of the drawing sheet by positioning the mouse, for example, to the left corner, and turn the mousewheel.
Choose a drawing function, example: Rectangle
Always have a look at the status line at the bottom of the screen. It tells you which function is active, and what you are expected to do.
Draw a rectangle by 2 clicks and get to see all geometric data of the drawing in the dialog box: Edit. You can change the size of the rectangle by doubleclick for example in the field a,b: change it to 22 for X, comma, 33 for Y. Confirm by OK.
Now draw a circle. First the rough outline, then enter the exact diameter D in the dialog box, 12.33 mm. Confirm by OK.
The drawing elements are listed in the tree drawings, where you can activate and eventually change them. By the way; you can give names to the elements, for example „Hole" instaed of CIRCLE and you can change the line width here and also the group where the drawing element is assigned to.
Catch and select

For drawing I have activated the grid – by the way, it can be modified by the icon „Set up catch/grid". You can draw now. Normally the catch is activated. In our case it catches every mm. Via the icon „CATCH" you can disable the catch to reach construction points between the catch distances. In the status line you see the exact measures accurate to 1000 th of a mm. If you want to connect the ends of the lines, you must activate the construction catch to catch the ends exactly, like that … etc.
If I want to select single lines in order to shift them, for example, I just have to take the mouse across the lines, I don't have to find the exact construction points. The line is marked and in the tree you see the name of the part.
If you want to shift, for example, a group of lines, you can mark several parts by pressing the control key [ctrl] and shift them together from point … to point. This is a general principle.
Catch and selection distance can be modified here, coarse and fine.
Find a group by moving the mouse cursor to the group in the tree. All these functions are helpful to find drawing elements which you may want to modify.
Direct path from drawing to machining, that's "Workpiece Oriented Programming WOP".
Without export-/import problems, there is no easier and faster way!
Process chain from drawing to machining
You see the process chain on top of the icon bar. After clicking the button Start choose CAD/CAM 1 level, and enter or confirm the dimensions of the workpiece. Draw a rectangle (you can modify the geometry data here) and enter the parameters of machining (Technology) of how to treat the workpiece: e.g. select a 3mm milling cutter, pocket hole with automatic contour correction, enter the speed for XY , for Z we propose half the speed, but you may change it; the depth is 5mm, partly infeed is 1mm. After OK the element rectangle in the tree has got a green bar, that means you can machine it. The next step in the process chain is Simulation. The simulation is displayed in 3 dimensions, you can modify the display by pressing the mousewheel, turning it and moving the mouse, the slide bar on the right allows to watch the single steps of simulation. Draw the mousewheel the watch the steps, in the CNC-program on the left the code which is being processed is marked. The last step in the process chain is the access to the Machine. The window Manual control appears. Usually the first thing to do is to start a reference run, then go to the zeropoint by means of the different buttons, reset the zero-point position to zero by [Ctrl] + End. Afterwards start the program to make the workpiece.
